Job Description
Align is Joint Venture made up of Bouygues TP, Sir Robert McAlpine and VolkerFitzpatrick. It is responsible for delivering the £965m Chilterns Tunnels and Colne Valley Viaduct contract as part of a section of the new High Speed Rail link between London and Birmingham.

We have an exciting opportunity for a higher level apprenticeship in Civil Engineering to work with the team initially in central London and then at the works office which will be located close to junction 17 on the M25.

The higher apprenticeship includes a level 4 Foundation degree and will include block release at the new National College for High Speed Rail located in Birmingham. It is a 3 year apprenticeship with excellent prospects of advancement to professional civil engineering status.

Duties will include supporting the civil engineers in preparing technical designs, managing drawings and documentation, site measurements, quality control and checking and reporting on progress. The course will include:

-Contribute to the design, planning or implementation of high speed rail civil engineering projects, which could include lineside equipment, tunnels, cuttings, bridges, viaducts, or embankments;
-Contribute to the design, planning, implementation or decommissioning of temporary works;
-Estimate, manage and control costs, programme, risk and resources within area of responsibility;
-Effectively use industry software as appropriate to achieve BIM requirements;
-Establish dimensional control by surveying and setting out;
-Specify and select and manage a range of labour, plant and materials;
-Implement procedures that take account of structures, geotechnics and drainage for the construction, durability and safe operation of a high speed railway We are looking for a candidate with a demonstrable interest in civil engineering, and evidence of team working skills and a keenness to learn.
Minimum qualifications are 5 GCSs A*-C or equivalent including maths, science and English and A levels or equivalent including Maths and Science grade C or above.

Excellent timekeeping and attendance will be essential together with a positive attitude to travelling (there will be periods of study in Birmingham).

Please note that the successful candidate will undergo a drugs and alcohol test.

Hours - 40 hours per week, 26 days holiday per year
